Citing Source of Microfilmed Church Register Book

Hi all!

I asked about two years ago of proper citing Church Register Book which was transfered to Local Archives in Western Serbia and then microfilmed at Serbian National Archives in Belgrade. Microfilm arrived back in Local Archives where they made digital images of those microfilmed Books. Those images are stored on DVD-ROM's and in that way are easily reaachable for researchers inside Archives. 

EE Editor made clear to me, and hope all with similar issue, that I should use this citatio as my first Reference Note,

St. Nicola's Church (Jezevica, Cacak, Serbia), Church Death Register Book 1881-1918 (1881), DVD-ROM, Vital Register Books of St. Nicola's Church in Jezevica (Cacak: Local Historical Archives, 2015), folder MKU Jezevica 1881-1918, image P1470928.jpg, page 35, No. 39 death of Milan Delic, son of Milutin and Stana Delic (1910). Local Historical Archives, Cacak.

My question is: what to put into Source List entry according to this Reference note.

Hello, Fr. Ivan. It's good to hear from you again and to know that your research continues.

Let's first look at the Reference Note. Your complex situation really involves 3 things:

  • The original record
  • The DVD-ROM images
  • The archive where the DVD-ROM images are made available for study.

This creates a 3-layer citation. I've reorganized your details just a bit to put each element into the right layer. Below, Layer 1 (in black print) has all the details that relate to the original  register. Layer 2 (in red) has all the details that relate to the DVD-ROM.  Layer 3 (in blue) has the details for the archives.

For your Source List Entry, you now have a choice. You could cite the original record. Or you could cite the DVD-ROM. Or you could create two entries to include both.
