U.S. Census Population Schedule QuickCheck Models

In comparing/contrasting the QuickCheck Models for "Microfilm:Population Schedules" 1790-1840 vs. 1850-1870 vs. 1880-1940 (3rd edition pages 245, 246, and 248), I'm curious to learn why the enumeration district is only included for 1880-1940.

Thank you.

J. Stroebel, to quote EE 6.8:

SHEET NUMBERS (BY ENUMERATION DISTRICT)
Beginning in 1880, U.S. censuses divided counties and cities into enumeration districts (EDs).

You'll find more at 6.16 (bottom of p. 264) and 6.17 (p. 265).

Federal census returns from 1870 backward were not assigned to numbered enumeration districts. Censuses after 1940 are not publicly available.
