Citation Issues

It has been wonderful that the National Archives Catalog now has many images online for us, many from previously microfilmed records. It now gives us a new struggle in citing their records.

I am looking at 12.10 in EE4 and see that the first reference note begins with the U.S. National Archives. I prefer to begin first reference notes with the item I'm looking at and then cite where I am viewing it. My attempt for the images from the Records of the Post Office Department is:

When using US census citations, when can we abbreviate items such as "county" and state names? Only after the first usage? Or can we abbreviate even on the first citation? What about if we have citations for censuses in different states? Would we need to spell out the state on first usage, then provide the abbreviation?

I am trying to write a citation for a death certificate that I pulled from Ancestry but is housed in the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. I believe one of the ones I've written is correct as I have been following EE 4th Edition. However, I've also seen examples written differently with people on the forum saying they are correct. Do you list the Ancestry collection name first, like "New Brunswick, Canada, Deaths, 1888-1938" OR do you list Provincial Archives of New Brunswick first?

I've pored through this forum and even reluctantly used AI trying to resolve my dilemma, but to no avail.  I am good with the proper format for city directories.  Being a 'splitter', I have come to grips with having separate sources for each year for each city - even though it really clogs my source list in RootsMagic.  And I know we don't get into software issues on this forum, however...

I am currently working on a project that uses a number of vital records posted on the NYC Historical Vital Records website. I have gone over and over the posting from 11/9/2024, https://a860-historicalvitalrecords.nyc.gov/search and I have a question. I created my own template when the website came out, where I used a different website name. But given the URL, and after having studied the blog post, I agree that the  website name is actually Historical Vital Records: The New York City Municipal Archives.

I have crafted a citation for a blog post, but the item was posted by someone other than the author of the blog post. Do I need to make adjustments to account for that?

I'd like some clarification on when to use [sic]. For example, I have this citation. The record shows the bride's surname as Denison, but her surname is actually Denson. Would it be better to use [sic] in this case or the correct surname, also in square brackets?

In Evidence Explained (4th edition), a citation involving a URL usually includes the word "accessed" before the date accessed, but sometimes "accessed" is omitted. Example below from 12.9, p. 482. Does this mean the word "accessed" is optional?

Hello Elizabeth!

Can you please describe how to cite family trees?

:)

I seem to be struggling when documents are not in named databases re: what should be included or is sufficient.
