Hello,
I'm crafting a first reference note citation for a newspaper article accessed online and I feel comfortable with the example given in EE 14.22. My question comes because the the newspaper title from the masthead in the digital image (North Wales Observer and Express) is different from the newspaper title as shown in the website (The North Wales Express).
If the title wasn't an issue, I would use the following:
1. “Bontnewydd: The Late Mrs J. W. Jones,” North Wales Observer and Express (Carnarvon, Wales), 11 June 1909, p. 8, col. 5; digital image, The National Library of Wales (http://www.library.wales/ : accessed 5 June 2021), Newspapers.
I'm inclined to use waypoints to provide clarity about the title, though I wonder if it is overkill. I've used the website a fair bit and the Advanced Search is an easier interface, which is why I would highlight it, though it isn't required to get to results. I'm also not certain if I can use a waypoint to indicate the Publication Title because it isn't a link.
2. “Bontnewydd: The Late Mrs J. W. Jones,” North Wales Observer and Express (Carnarvon, Wales), 11 June 1909, p. 8, col. 5; digital image, The National Library of Wales (http://www.library.wales/ : accessed 5 June 2021), Newspapers > Advanced Search > Publication Title = The North Wales Express.
Or is it cleaner with something more like this?
3. “Bontnewydd: The Late Mrs J. W. Jones,” North Wales Observer and Express (Carnarvon, Wales), 11 June 1909, p. 8, col. 5; digital image, The National Library of Wales (http://www.library.wales/ : accessed 5 June 2021), Newspapers, using The North Wales Express as title.
I still feel like an EE novice, but learning so much from EE and the forums.
Thank you in advance!
Jennifer
Ah, yes, Jennifer…
Ah, yes, Jennifer. Newspapers, like businesses and government agencies, do change their titles. Your example 2 led me to the paper quite easily. It's a keeper.
Thank you! I'm ever so…
