Newspaper Transcriptions @ Provincial Archives of New Brunswick

Dear Editor,

I am unsure what EE guideline to look at for this, so I am just fumbling in many ways.

I am trying to cite a "transcription" of a newspaper death notice, that is located in the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick website.

This is my attempt:

Daniel Fred Johnson, compiler, "Daniel F Johnson's New Brunswick Newspaper Vital Statistics", database, Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, New Nouveau Brunswick Canada (https://archives.gnb.ca/search/newspapervitalstats/FullText.aspx : accessed 6 November 2022), entry for "Mary Armstrong widow of Christopher Armstrong, died 8 April 1860"; citing Daniel F. Johnson : Volume 18 Number 1524, Morning News (Saint John, Saint John County), 11 April 1860.

Can you find the same with the citation provided or do I need to tweak this citation? Does it need way-points?

Thanks in advance.

Well done, Robyn. You've followed the basic format for citing databases at websites--which, of course, is the same basic format as citing an individual chapter in a book with multiple authors.

Author/Compiler, "Title of Database in Quotation Marks," descriptor, Website Creator, Title of Websites in Italics (Publication location = UR : date), specific item.

And you've added a layer to say where the compiler said he got his info from. The compiler's manner of citing himself as his own source is confusing; but it is likely that most readers will discern that the obit was published in the Saint John Morning News on 11 April 1860 and that Johnson himself was not the author of the 1860 obit.

Thank you for your comment. I have since wondered if I should change it slightly to read:

Daniel Fred Johnson, compiler, "Daniel F Johnson's New Brunswick Newspaper Vital Statistics", database, Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, New Nouveau Brunswick Canada (https://archives.gnb.ca/search/newspapervitalstats/FullText.aspx : accessed 6 November 2022), entry for "Mary Armstrong widow of Christopher Armstrong, died 8 April 1860"; citing Morning News (Saint John, Saint John County), 11 April 1860; archive reference: Daniel F. Johnson, Volume 18, Number 1524.

Yes/No?
