Libraries Tasmania

Hi everyone, I'd like to cite a record from the Libraries Tasmania Names Index using Evidence Explained, but am having a bit of trouble.

This is the record: https://libraries.tas.gov.au/Record/NamesIndex/1026947 : John Johnson born 22 Sep 1878

Not even sure where to start. Would it be the "Corporate Records Online Images", even though not all records have images?

Also, would I cite Names Index: Births, or just Names Index?

This is what I have made, but it is almost certainly wrong:

"Names Index: Births," digital images, Libraries Tasmania (https://libraries.tas.gov.au/Record/NamesIndex/1026947 : accessed 31 May 2024), image for John Johnson, born 13 Sep 1878, number 77; citing "record NAME_INDEXES:1026947, resource RGD33/1/56 no 77"

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, Yannick. You write:

>Not sure even where to start. Would it [your starting point?] be the “Corporate Records Online Images", even though not all the records have images?

I must answer this back with three questions. The answers will help me understand why you are uncertain about the citation you have drafted:

  1. Why would you feel that a website database that offers birth registrations is a "corporate record"?
  2. Would you cite the EE passage (page or section) you are referring to as “Corporate Record Online Image”—and the edition you are using?  When I query each edition, I don’t get that exact phrase; if I queied for either "Corporate Record" or Online Image," I'd get many different hits.
  3. Are you using an edition that has the QuickStart Guide tipped into the front (i.e., 3d, 3d revised, or 4th?)

As you suspect, there are a few basic issues to clarify in (or add to) your draft citation, but I’ll wait until I have your response to these three questions.
