Database with images and references to several images.

Hello,

I’m trying to create a first reference and then subsequent references for a probate packet of loose papers, imaged on FamilySearch. The papers include the estate inventory, division among heirs, and etc. The widow later remarried and died shortly after and the packet also includes the “Return of Dower.”

I used emphasis on the database in the first reference note. Should the total range of images for the entire packet (images 1305-1340) be mentioned? In the subsequent note, I’ve referenced a different image than in the first reference, but the image is in the packet.

I get confused when several subsequent notes are needed for the same first reference imaged file.

First Reference Note (emphasis on the database)

“Maine, Oxford County, Probate Estate Files, 1805-1915,” database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/collection/2040540 : accessed 28 February 2025), > browse > 1805-1819 > Adams, Enoch-Carpenter, Seth > images 1305-1340, Seth Carpenter, particularly estate inventory images 1321-1343, 30 November, 1819; citing Probate Records, Oxford County Courthouse, South Paris, Maine.

Subsequent Note:

“Maine, Oxford County, Probate Estate Files, 1805-1915.” FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/collection/2040540), image 1329, “Commissioners’ Return of Dower,” 3 June 1829.

Source List Entry:

“Maine, Oxford County, Probate Estate Files, 1805-1915.” Database with images. FamilySearch. https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/collection/2040540. Oxford County Courthouse. 2025.

Your advice will be appreciated!

Thank you.

Chickadee, you've done well. Why did you think you had a problem?

One nit: There should be no period in the middle of your citation in the Subsequent Note. In footnotes, as in narrative writing, periods come only when you've completed the sentence.

I wasn't sure how specific the subsequent note should be and this answers the question.

These forums are confidence builders!  When I wrote reference notes for papers in college, in the very dark ages, internet images didn't exist.

Thank you so much.
