citing non-digital image obit from website

Not sure what to do for this citation:  I found an obituary on a website. The website belongs to "Trib Total Media, Inc.," which I think is a parent company for several different newspapers. On this website, the obituaries are not digital images of the actual newspaper, but are text versions of what was printed in the newspaper. There is a feature on their website to search for obituaries. The obituary has no other information attached to it, like the name of the newspaper or the date of when the obituary ran.  Would I cite this using a website citation? Any help and /or examples would be appreciated.  Thanks so much.

Tina,

If you're using something from a website, you definitely would create a citation to the website. As discussed at EE 2.33 "Online Materials," when we use material imaged at a website or previously published material that is reproduced at a website, we have a multi-layered citation: we have to cite the "original" material and we have to cite the website.

From your description, we're not clear as to the exact nature of the content, so let us ask: Have you considered the QuickCheck Model "Newspaper Articles: Online Archives" at p. 786? Or the obituary examples at EE 14.22 (to which you would add the essential citation to the website itself)?

If you don't feel that either of these fit, perhaps you could provide a link to the site.

Further to this thread (and keeping in mind what you wrote previously about when to use "The" in a name), would this be a valid way to cite an obituary found via Google from the NY Times:

“Mordecai Savitsky; Rabbi, 80,” obituary, New York Times (New York), 18 June 1991; database, nytimes.com (http://www.nytimes.com/1991/06/18/obituaries/mordecai-savitsky-rabbi-80.html : accessed 11 January 2018).

I added the word obituary to give meaning, as I saw in the GenealogyBank inquiry (https://www.evidenceexplained.com/content/genealogybank). I skipped the author as it appears to be redundant, as it is the NY Times. I made the second layer red. Thank you.

Yes, c048g30, that works; but one refnement would help. The name of the website is not nytimes.com. That's the URL. The website title is New York Times or The New York Times.
