Citation Issues

Hi all,

I just recently purchased the book to help with creating accurate footnotes and a bibliography for my family history book, and I'm brand new to the forums (this is my first post!). I did a search for Getty Images which didn't seem to turn up any results so I'm posting here hoping for some insight regarding a citation.

I've been using the Barbour Collection to find B/M/D records from Connecticut.

I've just come to the realization that I've been drawing conclusions from it that it doesn't actually support.

For example, Dan Hill is listed in the Wallingford records as being born 14 January 1734 but is also listed in the Goshen records.

From other records I can show that it's probable that the Wallingford records are the original birth record, so I concluded that Wallingford was the birth location.  I now think that conclusion was wrong.

Do you use the information below in citing your sources?  It took me a while to figure out what it all means.

I am citing a deed image online on a state/county site. Here is an example of what I'm doing:

Massachusetts. Plymouth County. Old Colony Books. Plymouth County Registry of Deeds. Digital images. Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Plymouth County Register of Deeds Search. titleview.org/plymouthdeeds/ : 2018.

I wasn't able to find anything identical to what I am citing, so I combined the Quick Check Model on p. 494 with 10.6 Basic Formats: Image Copies Online Images of Microfilm (FamilySearch), p. 500.

As an Australian, I am somewhat quite (very) inexperienced when it comes to citing US records, so excuse me if this appears to be a question that has been asked/answered before. I did look through the search function on the forum to see if anyone else had asked the same or had a similar query.

I know EE does not make comment on genealogy software issues; I totally understand that, because forum members use many different programmes. But for the record I use Legacy and I have overidden the first reference note to add the 2nd layer.

Do I use the Database Publication Year or the Accessed Year ?

Having given copies of your QuickSheet; Citing Ancestry® Databases & Images (2017) to a couple of developer types, I am now working on a project to make sure that I can craft the Citations that are in this Awesome work. Thank you for that. But, I may have some comments or questions from my quest in doing so.

Would following this format be appropriate for citing this online obituary posted on a furneral home's web page?

I wish to cite an online transcription of a newsletter.  The transcription was made by the person whose website contains the transcription.  I've come up with this possible citation:

Derrick K. Babbs, “The Original North Side Church Cemetery,” Apostolic Heritage Genealogy and History Newsletter 29 (May 2003); transcription by Adam J. Barrone, at “Apostolic Heritage,” Adam J. Barrone (http://www.barrone.net/babbs/index.htm : accessed 13 March 2018).  The newsletter was self-published by Derrick K. Babbs in Livingston County, Illinois.

I have a question regarding a citation for a locally created birth and/or death certificate that is referenced by volume and page number at a local office. The larger collections are series of volumes titled simply: "Birth Certificates," and "Death Certificates." So for a birth certificate for John Doe that is in volume 1, page 2, I have...

Reference Note

Hello,

I am a beginning family historian researching my French-Canadian ancestors.

I have been using the model in Section 7.37 of EE to cite entries from the Drouin collection (images of church records/transcriptions), but have two question about another source that contains some facts derived from Drouin, and links SOME information to Drouin.  Entries in PRDH are identified by a "certificate number".

If I find a record in PRDH, and click through to Drouin, do I only cite Drouin?
